IN 2017 WE COLLABORATED WITH MELBOURNE ARTIST
KIRRILY ANDERSON TO CREATE EXCLUSIVE RAINBIRD FABRIC PRINTS
Kirrily Anderson (Aka I & the Others) grew up in the stillness of rural NSW. With an excitement for the city life she moved to Melbourne at the age of 18 to study graphic design. Having recently moved from the busy midst of Melbourne’s street art scene in Collingwood to the still beauty of the bush in Chiltern, North East Victoria, her artwork has come full circle to reveal the quiet and reflective nature of her upbringing in rural NSW.

‘INVISIBLE WINGS’ BY KIRRILY ANDERSON USING WATERCOLOUR & INK
What first drew you to the art scene?
It sounds a bit clichéd, but I’ve always been creative. Art and creativity was always going to be part of what I do. As a graphic designer I began to feel the need for freer expression and that’s what essentially made me turn to visual art.
How did you start with the ideas behind your creation for the collaboration with Rainbird?
My first step was to look at the colours in the Rainbird range. They are much brighter than those I normally use, so I wanted to really work in with that. I chose a hummingbird as colour inspiration and worked that in with my usual figurative style, making sure there were enough elements in the piece that could be separated to create pattern or texture for fabric prints.
